Oil-Free Hummus

Oil free hummus

Ingredients:
2 cups of cooked chickpeas(or 1 15oz can)
1/3 cup tahini ( sesame seed paste)
3 garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
Red chili powder to taste
1/2 teaspoon Cumin seed powder
1/4th cup lemon juice or juice 1 big lemon ( fresh is better)
1/2 teaspoon of turmeric(optional)

1/2 cup aquafaba (water in which chick peas are boiled)

1-2 Tsp sun dried tomatoes(trader joe’s has oil free ones)

2 Tbs tahini can store bought or home made(sesame seed paste)

1/4th teaspoon cumin seed powder.

Procedure;
In a small blender or coffee grinder, make tahini.

Tahini is ground sesame seeds. Add sesame seeds and blend it until it becomes a paste.
Now in food processer add all the above ingredients mentioned.
Mixing in-between blend everything until it’s smooth.

to make a variation, of roasted red pepper hummus,

Kept little bit hummus in the jar and added roasted red peppers from the jar ( I get mine from Trader Joe’s, it is oil-free)and more red chilli powder and added few more cooked chickpeas to get the consistency of hummus.

Hummus can be used in various dishes like pita pockets, wraps, sandwiches and as a dip for carrots and celery, bell peppers

Chickpeas are a sustainable source of protein ,it takes less land and water to grown chickpeas ,compared to the same amount of protein we get from animal source,

Sesame seeds are are good source of calcium and good for people with arthritis.
